When it comes to the weather, I don't trust my Apple weather app. I've stood in sleet and snow where the app tells me it's sunny. I've been through 48 hours of rain after the phone app assured me there was 0% chance of rain that weekend. If I'm planning trips and looking for weather forecasts for the seasons ahead, I turn to the old and trusted The Old Farmer's Almanac.
The historic paperback guide was first published in 1792 and is still in print today. You can often pick one up at a grocery store or pharmacy, and flip it open like you're tapping into a local wise woman's best advice.
It's important to know the forecasted weather when you're planning a trip to enjoy the outdoors in the seasons ahead, including road trips, hikes and camping Knowing the weather will help you pack the right clothes and plan appropriate outdoor activities. And depending on how extreme the weather forecast is for the time of month, you may want to reschedule your trip.
Since I know I'll be getting the itch to hop in my car and get out of the city this summer, I flipped through Old Farmer's Almanac to see what it's forecasting for the weather in the southwest desert. This region includes the southeastern section of California, the southern tip of Nevada, and the majority of Arizona and New Mexico. This includes the major cities of Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque and El Paso.
Summer will be hotter on average in the southwest desert
